Lightning Strikes at Dollywood

Who doesn’t want to ride the world’s first and fastest wood launch roller coaster? Coaster enthusiasts and Dollywood fans alike have been anticipating the opening of Lightning Rod, the 73-MPH hot-rod themed wood roller coaster, and now it’s here, opening March 19.

Be sure to plan a trip to Dollywood during your next visit to White Oak Lodge and Resort so you can say you experienced Lightning Rod.

Located in Dollywood’s Jukebox Junction, Lightning Rod is themed after a 1950s-era hot rod and rockets riders around its massive wooden structure in 12 cars, carrying two passengers each, for a total of 24 people per train.

For coaster enthusiasts out there, here are the vital stats.

  • 20-story massive lift hill

  • 73 MPH top speed

  • 165-foot drop

  • 90+ degree banked breaking wave turn

  • 90+ degree outside banked top hat

  • High-speed airtime hill

  • Non-inverting half loop

  • 12 total airtime moments

  • Quadruple down

Not sure what some of that lingo even means? Check out a simulated ride for yourself.
