Gatlinburg Goes Green for Earth Week

If you’ve ever visited us at the White Oak Lodge and Resort in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, you know how much we love the environment. You’ll see that passion on full display during this month’s Earth Week!

From April 21-27, enjoy a new event each day promoting sustainability for the greenery surrounding the beautiful Smoky Mountains. Take part in helping the planet when you join in:

Monday, April 21 (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.)
Gatlinburg Goes Green Breakfast

Enjoy breakfast at the Hilton Garden Inn while learning about the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Green Power Switch and how it supports regional renewable energy from resources such as wind, solar or biomass. Tuesday, April 22 (9:00 a.m. – noon)
Spur Clean-Up

Get your hands dirty by helping Keep Sevier Beautiful and Great Smoky Mountains Nation Park pick up litter in the park area between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, known as the Spur. Businesses and organizations can make teams and compete for a Big Daddy’s Pizzeria party, awarded to the group who collects the most trash. Wednesday, April 23 (9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.)
Get Growing

Show your kids how to plant at this free all-ages program put on by Keep Sevier Beautiful at Mills Park Pavilion. Learn how to make pots from recycled two-liter bottles, tires and more. Best of all, you’ll get free trees and flowers just for participating!

Thursday, April 24 (3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.)
Earth Day Festival

Head down to Mynatt Park for an afternoon jam-packed with good, green entertainment. Learn easy sustainable habits, check out Knoxville Zoo’s Zoomobile and get information from green businesses and organizations on site. Cabin Café and Ben & Jerry’s will be there selling food and ice cream with all sales benefitting local scholarships and donations to schools from the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Friday, April 25 (10:00 p.m.)
Earth Day 5K Night Race

Run or walk through downtown Gatlinburg – at night! All ages are welcome to participate, so register early at imathlete.com. Registration is $25 for adults or $30 the day of. Students and children can race for $15. This is a USA Track and Field sanctioned event.

Saturday, April 26 (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)
National Junior Ranger Day

Show your kids what it means to be a park ranger with free special activities at the three Great Smoky Mountains National Park visitor’s centers. Go on a guided ranger walk, make some crafts at the blacksmith shop and inspect animal skins on visiting touch tables.

Sunday, April 27 (12:30 p.m.)
Go Green Disc Golf Tournament
What better way to end Earth Week than with a day of disc golf? Bring your family up to Mills Park for an afternoon of sustainable fun. Each tee features how-to tips on “going green,” courtesy of Keep Sevier Beautiful. You’ll also be able to compete for prizes in putting contests. Adults can register for $20, children for $15. You’ll get a lunch from Mellow Mushroom and a 2014 Earth Week T-shirt if you participate.

Earth Week is more than just about saving the planet; it’s also about having a blast while staying at the White Oak Lodge and Resort!
